In December of 2022, I received an email from Steven Rand, Executive Director of apexart —an educational arts institution and key incubator for curators and creatives. The message started with:
Congratulations! Your exhibition proposal is one of the top five submitted for the NYC 2023 Open Call. Nearly 700 jurors cast more than 19,000 votes, and out of over 400 submissions, Build what we hate. Destroy what we love. came in 3rd place.
One year later, I'm happy to announce the opening of this project, which I’ve poured my heart into! — Build what we hate. Destroy what we love. delves into the narratives of Venezuelan migrants, addressing the massive displacement of nearly 8 million people in the last decade. The exhibit explores the profound narratives embedded in the objects that illustrate their journeys —those carried along the way, and those left behind.
I hope you can join in person, online through the forthcoming 3D digital gallery space, or through the related events! Press Release below.
